Northowram Juniors under 9’s finished off a fine season by winning the Crossley Tournament. The Juniors played some cracking football only conceding 1 goal in the whole tournament. On their way to the final they beat Tod Sports, Norristhorpe, Crossley Swifts and Elland Juniors to progress to the semi final. The Semi Final proved to be a close affair against a well organised Irish team, Two goals by Luke Cranswick saw the Juniors through. The Final was against Crossley Juniors who were on home soil. The opening exchanges were close with Saxon Hargreaves and Lewis Halmshaw working hard in the juniors defence to nullify any threat from Crossleys, in midfield Alex Kingsley and Cameron Wright worked well together calving two openings for Cranswick, both going narrowly wide. Matty Taylor on the left wing for the Juniors was also getting some joy crossing for Logan Simpson to head narrowly wide. At the other end George Acton pulled off a fine save to stop Crossley's taking the lead. The second half started well with the Juniors pushing hard to open the scoring. Imogen Pow sent Kingsley through the middle he passed to Wright who returned the favour and set Kingsley up for the opener. With 6 minutes remaining Crossley's pushed forward which left room for Cranswick and Kingsley to work their magic. With all the Crossley players in the Juniors half Hargreaves broke up play looked up and played Cranswick in on goal. He rounded the keeper and placed the ball in the bottom corner. The last goal followed the same format with Simpson putting Kingsley through he smashed the ball in the bottom corner to make it 3-0. A fine display of pass and move football against a very good Crossley side.
