Northowram colts continue good run of form

Colts march on

Today Northowram colts travelled to Rothwell juniors in the quarter finals of the cup. What was expected to be a very tough game didn't disappoint. As the game started Northowram got straight out of the blocks with Isaac Boam and Evan Clark going close in the first 5 minutes, it was never going to be all one way though as Rothwells no8 fired a wonderful shot for Josh Blahuta to equal it with a fine save tipping it over the bar. After an exciting opening 10 minutes Northowram opened the scoring, from a good passing move Jonas Radcliffe
cooly fired home into the bottom corner. Rothwell once again pushed, but Ollie Dodds and Finlay Nichols defended resolutely, then on 18 mins Harry Hindle won the ball in midfield and broke free towards goal and calmly finished past the keeper. This then put Northowram in the ascendency with Luke Bates nearly finishing a scramble in the box, then just on half time came a sucker punch as Rothwell scored an absolute screamer from the edge of the box as the ball broke Cody Whitehead did his best to try and block the shot but just fell short of getting there as the ball flew into the top corner.
As the second half kicked off it was obvious the next goal would be vital, and so it proved. As Rothwell pushed the ball broke and Isaac played Evan through the middle only to get tripped outside the box. Evan took the initiative and smashed the free kick into the top corner.
The momentum now was with Northowram and a few minutes later Harry played a nice one two with Isaac, cut inside and hammered a shot home. It looked like the game was done only for Rothwell to re-group and have one last throw at us, Cody pulling off some good saves only for one speculative shot to beat him in the bottom corner. At this point it only seemed to spur Northowram on. Some clever footwork from Luke on the by-line to beat his man was upended. From the resulting free kick Luke floated a lovely ball into the box which eluded everyone and nestled in the bottom corner, Ollie and Finlay stood strong at the back seeing out the game and in the last minute MOM Jonas broke play and played in Evan to finish off the game. It was a great effort by everyone involved and sets up an exciting end to a stop start season, thanks to the weather!
